Alright, been quite awhile since the last formal update on the blog as well as after the Singapore's Asia Championship Qualifiers. Today's post will be the "Try-Hard" cards called "ZeXal Weapons" that are used solely with [Number 39: Utopia] monsters.
Since November 2011 when the booster pack [Order Of Chaos] was released, we were introduced to the first ever Zexal Weapon called [Unicorn Spear]. From then on more Zexal weapons were released to our arsenal. However after [Unicorn Spear] was released, it lead us to thinking that Zexal Weapons were actually quite shitty, considering that they can only be equipped to [CNumber 39: Utopia Ray].
After which Konami decided to lower down this restriction to make it much more playable, it was when weapons such as [Lightning Blade] and [Tornado Bringer] were introduced. Not to also mention that a tutor monster designed for Zexal Weapons was also created. [Leo Arms] was such a card that enables the player to search for any Zexal Weapon and it can also be equipped to a [Utopia] monster for a huge ATK boost.
Introducing the various ZeXal Weapons.
[ZW - Unicorn Spear]
Effect Monster/Light/Beast/LV 4
ATK 1900/ DEF 0
You can target 1 face-up "Number C39: Utopia Ray" you control; equip this card from your hand to that target. It gains 1900 ATK. If the equipped monster battles an opponent's monster, the opponent's monster's effect is negated during the Battle Phase only. You can only control 1 face-up "ZW - Unicorn Spear".
Review: As mentioned before, this monster wasn't popular together with [Phoenix Bow] because of the "equip only to a Utopia Ray" you control restriction. This card also doesn't work with the latest [Utopia Ray V] or even [Utopia Ray Victory] as well. But however this card tends to be a little useful because of its decent ATK stat of 1900. Besides, sometimes you really need its effect to get rid of irritating monsters such as [Lightsworn Hunter - Ryko], [Snowman Eater] or even by following the anime, [Galaxy-Eyes Photon Dragon]?
[ZW - Phoenix Bow]
Effect Monster/Fire/Winged-Beast/LV 3
ATK 1100/ DEF 0
You can target 1 face-up "Number C39: Utopia Ray" you control; equip this card from your hand to that target. It gains 1100 ATK. When the equipped monster destroys an opponent's monster by battle: Inflict 1000 damage to your opponent. You can only control 1 face-up "ZW - Phoenix Bow".
Review: Among of all the Zexal Weapons, this is the only one which is pretty much the "useless" one. Apparently adding 1100 ATK to your Utopia Ray doesn't exactly help alot. True though that you are able to deal actually an additional amount of 2100 instead to your opponent after considering the usage of the effect damage. However end conclusion = not useful at the moment.
[ZW - Lightning Blade]
Effect Monster/Light/Beast/LV 5
ATK 1200/ DEF 2000
You can target 1 "Utopia" monster you control; equip this monster from your hand or your side of the field to that target. It gains 1200 ATK. While this card is equipped to a monster, face-up "ZW -" cards you control cannot be destroyed by your opponent's card effects. If a monster equipped with this card would be destroyed by a card effect, destroy this card instead. You can only control 1 face-up "ZW - Lightning Blade".
Review: One of the best Zexal Weapons at the moment because it is able to be equipped onto any [Utopia] monster! Although the amount of ATK that Lightning Blade gives is not very fantastic as similiar to Phoenix Bow. It's effect is what makes it attractive to use. The ability of not allowing all of your Zexal Weapons be destroyed by effects would be making your Zexal Weapons immune to cards such as [Mystical Space Typhoon] and [Heavy Storm]. As well as the 2nd effect, since your Utopia usually would not be destroyed by battle because of its Attack Negation effect, preventing your Utopia from being destroyed by effects proves even harder to destroy Utopia.
[ZW - Tornado Bringer]
Effect Monster/Wind/Dragon/LV 5
ATK 1300/ DEF 1800
You can target 1 "Utopia" monster you control; equip this monster from your hand or your side of the field to that target. It gains 1300 ATK. While this card is equipped to a monster, your opponent cannot target that monster with card effects. If a monster equipped with this card would be destroyed by battle, destroy this card instead. You can only control 1 face-up "ZW - Tornado Bringer".
Review: Back to Back with [Lightning Blade] , this card is a great combination with it. It makes your [Utopia] monsters unable to be targetted by your opponent's effects such as [Mind Control], [Wicked Monarch - Caius], [Number 11: Big Eye], [Dimensional Prison] and more! With this card in play with [Lightning Blade], your Utopia is at a "Near-Invincible" stage!
[ZW - Ultimate Shield]
Effect Monster/Earth/Aqua/LV 4
ATK 0/ DEF 2000
When this card is Normal or Special Summoned: You can target 1 of your banished Xyz Monsters; Special Summon that target in face-up Defense Position. You can target 1 "Utopia" monster you control; equip this monster on the field to that target. It gains 2000 DEF. You can only control 1 face-up "ZW - Ultimate Shield".
Review: Not a bad card considering it can be combo-ed with cards such as [Ghost Ship] which you can use to remove a [Utopia] monster from your grave away from the game since they are all of the Light Element. Or you can even use this card's effect to revive any XYZ monster that was destroyed and removed away from the game by cards such as [Bottomless Traphole] and more.
[ZW - Eagle Claw]
Effect Monster/Wind/Winged-Beast/LV 5
ATK 2000/ DEF 1200
If you have 2000 or more Life Points less than your opponent, you can Special Summon this card (from your hand). You can target 1 "Utopia" monster you control; equip this card you control to it. It gains 2000 ATK. While this card is equipped to a monster, once per turn, when a Trap effect that was activated on your opponent's side of the field resolves, negate that effect. You can only control 1 face-up "ZW - Eagle Claw".
Review: A look at first sight when you see that this card can only be equipped from the field to an Utopia monster you control, you'd probably be thinking that this card is shitty. But however it ain't all that shitty considering that Konami actually "balanced" it out. Making you able to special summon it when your lifepoints are 2000 points or more lower than your opponent. Cards such as [Upstart Goblin] or [Instant Fusion] can help in that manner. But best part about this card is it's ability to negate trap cards without actually starting a chain link because it only negates a trap card when its "Resolving". This if I am not wrong, you are actually able to negate counter trap cards such as [Solemn Judgment] when they are resolving! How awesome is that?!
[ZW - Leo Arms]
XYZ/Effect Monster/Light/Beast/Rank 5
ATK 3000/ DEF 1200
2 Level 5 monsters
This card cannot attack your opponent directly. Once per turn: You can detach 1 Xyz Material from this card; add 1 "ZW -" monster from your Deck to your hand. You can target 1 "Utopia" monster you control; equip this monster on the field to that target. It gains 3000 ATK. During your Battle Phase, if a monster attacked this turn while equipped with this card: You can send this Equip Card to the Graveyard; the monster that was equipped with this card can make a second attack, on an opponent's monster, during this Battle Phase
Review: Awesome XYZ monster that acts as a tutor for ZeXal Weapons. Plus enabling itself to be equipped onto your [Utopia] monsters to gain a 3000 ATK boost will also mean that your [Utopia] monster is really invincible now when combined with [Lightning Blade] and [Tornado Bringer]. High attack power? Substitutes when being destroyed by battle/effects? Immunity to destruction for your Zexal Weapons? What more can you ask for?
Alright! Since this post is only an introduction to the ZeXal Weapons, I'll be doing another post up soon as a continuation to this one. Which are about decks that could probably run the Zexal Weapons successfully! Till next time, why not try out the ZeXal Weapons for fun?
